Family Meals and Tips to Encourage Good Habits in Kids
Childhood obesity is an issue in America. Childhood obesity expert Melinda Sothern, PhD gave USA Today tips on how to get your kids to live a healthier life in the article entitled, “Simple Tips to get kids to eat better, exercise more.” Sothern emphasizes the importance of prepping and eating family meals together and includes tips like adding extra some vegetables to pasta dishes to “trick” kids into eating their veggies and serving kids on smaller plates so that they eat child-sized portions. Here are some of her suggestions:
- Reinstate family traditions.
- Offer a nutritious starter course.
- Trick their tummies.
- Use smaller plates.
- Teach kids to dance.
- Play outside with your children.
- Encourage breaks for physical activity.
