Drs. Oz and Roizen Discuss Benefits of Lycopene
For many people, pasta’s perfect pair is tomato sauce. Yes, pasta can easily be paired with oil or cheese-based sauces, but when most American’s think of their spaghetti dinner, chances are it has a marinara or tomato sauce on it! That’s why here at Pasta Fits, we were excited to see that Drs. Oz and Roizen recently wrote an article about the benefits of lycopene, a polynutrient found in cooked tomatoes/sauces and other red and orange fruits and veggies.
Just two servings of cooked tomatoes or other lycopene-rich foods a week can lower prostate cancer risk by 23 percent. Drs. Oz and Roizen also report that recent studies show that one serving of lycopene a day could reduce your level of “bad cholesterol” or LDL cholesterol by as much as 10 percent. In addition, eating foods with lycopene could lower stroke risk up to 55 percent, support strong bones and even help you get a good night’s sleep!
