Farfalle (Bow Ties)
The word farfalle means butterflies in Italian and is commonly referred to as bow tie pasta because of its shape. To make farfalle, simply cut fresh pasta into small rectangles and pinch the centers together to form the unique shape. Farfalle recipes often feature cream-based sauces, such as a creamy mushroom sauce, fresh tomato sauces or the classic alfredo sauce. They also work well in soups and salads too! Farfalle is also often served with grilled chicken and vegetables or grilled lean meats. It’s a great shape to use in any kind of recipe and is always kid-friendly!
Farfalle can be traced back to the 16th century in the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions of Northern Italy.
